Muse It Up Publishing

After two years devoted to teaching and nothing but teaching, I am back in the book world with a vengeance.

Yes, I do think about my own book every day. I have the folder open and my revision notes to hand.

But it is much more fun --dare I say it--working for someone else. And especially when that someone else is editor and now publisher Lea Schizas.

This is a new publishing house with a philosophy to be proud of. We, and I say we because Lea makes all her editors feel part of a team, all have the chance to read and comment on every submission. Lea, and this is the amazing part, then gives notes to all authors explaining clearly reasons for rejection and suggesting either other routes to publication or ways in which the work could be improved for publication.

This may be a very new publishing house but it is certainly no pushover. The standard of work we are receiving is exceptionally high.

Thinks: don't think my book stands much of a chance here:-)

Starter or Finisher?

Starter or a finisher? Which one are you?

Most of us are one or the other. We either have great ideas, some of which even get through to the proposal stage, and then, already bored, feel the job is done and move on to the next great idea.

Or we hate the early anguish of submitting our precious idea. We simply want to write the article and then find it a home.

To make money freelancing, focus on your weaknesses as well as your skills. Practise writing query letters. The more you write, the better you get, and the more you will find your ideas accepted.

If you're a keen starter, practise writing the articles before they have a home. They will always be easy to adapt to match a successful query and they will always be filed on your computer ready to send as sample writing when a suitable writing post is advertised.

To help you organise your time and energy, try the new Write Again software presently offered free when you subscribe to Freelance Writing Organization International. I am not usually a fan of free writing software but this is brilliant.

If nothing else, it convinces me I am working when I spend the morning scanning emails for news of job opportunities --and I've even been writing an article a day and submitting

Writing Success

Writing success is when you power up the dreaded machine and find two emails with contracts attached.
Happy New Year to me.
The articles were submitted in November and to be honest I had moved on.
I had heard nothing and just assumed editors were too overworked to reply.
Now to write and submit some more.
